RiDE Tested - Top Winter Bolt Ons - February 2000

Unless you are an obsessive clean-lube-and-adjust merchant, chains die in winter. I'm not, so I fitted a Scottoiler Touring Kit to my old Honda VFR 750 in the hope of remaining a lazy git and still having a serviceable chain come spring.

It took the best part of the day to fit but once on and adjusted properly, my plan worked beautifully. The constant drip of oil meant the VFR's chain only needed adjusting every 5,000 miles (regardless of how many ham-fisted wheelies I attempted). And, with the Touring Kit reservoir holding enough oil for 6,000 miles, I hardly ever had to fill it up either. Better still, and unlike normal chain lube, it didn't cake the rear wheel in gunge.

Verdict : Lifesaver for chains and lazy gits. Toby Mears, RiDE Product Tester
